Mumbai: Director Raaj Shaandilyaa has clarified that his upcoming film, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, is not influenced by the Hollywood film Sex Tape. In contrast to Sex Tape, which revolves around a couple who accidentally leak their intimate video, Vicky Vidya... follows a married couple from the 1990s in search of a CD containing their wedding night video, which they misplace due to negligence. The director emphasized that there is no sexual content in the film and that the concept is original.

Sequel and Setting

Shaandilyaa revealed that he is already working on a sequel for Vicky Vidya..., which will take place 10-15 years later, during the rise of the internet. The story for Vicky Vidya... began in 2018, co-written with Yusuf Ali Khan, but faced delays due to prior commitments and the pandemic. The film was initially intended to be made before Dream Girl 2.

Casting and Inspiration

The director shared that he had wanted to work with Rajkummar Rao for a long time and felt that his middle-class boy image perfectly suited the film. As for casting Triptii Dimri, Shaandilyaa wanted a fresh pairing for Rao, leading to Dimri's selection before her upcoming film Animal was even released.

Shaandilyaa explained his decision to set the film in the 1990s, aiming to capture the essence of the CD era and its societal influence. The actors' long hair in the film reflects the style of the time rather than being inspired by actors like Sanjay Dutt or Amitabh Bachchan.

Raaj Shaandilyaa Work front

Shaandilyaa hinted at several upcoming projects, including potential collaborations with Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, Kartik Aaryan, and Varun Dhawan. He has written 10 scripts ranging from comedies to political dramas and plans to direct his next film by March or April.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is set for release on October 11.
