Ram Charan’s Peddi OTT Price May Increase If Film Turns Blockbuster

Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi has sparked fresh buzz, not for its visuals or music, but for a bold OTT deal clause that links Netflix’s payout directly to box office performance. Here’s what’s really happening behind the scenes.

OTT platforms have quietly rewritten the rules of digital rights in recent months. Instead of paying massive upfront amounts, streaming giants are now tightening budgets, especially for big-star Telugu films. Only select actors like Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Nani continue to command premium OTT prices in this shifting market.

Netflix Introduces Box Office-Linked Payments

Netflix has already begun experimenting with performance-based OTT payouts. While digital rights are initially locked at a fixed amount, a new clause allows the platform to reduce payments if a film underperforms at the box office - a model recently applied to films like Akhanda 2 and The Raja Saab.

Netflix Bags Peddi for a Record Price

Despite these changes, Ram Charan’s Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, secured a massive Netflix deal worth ₹105 crore — reportedly the highest OTT price ever for a Ram Charan film. But the agreement didn’t stop there, and that’s where things got interesting.

Makers Add a Reverse Performance Clause

According to sources, the makers of Peddi have proposed a reverse clause to Netflix. If the film performs exceptionally well at the box office and crosses a set benchmark, Netflix would be required to pay an additional amount over the agreed OTT price.

Hit Film Could Mean Higher OTT Payout

Traditionally, only underperformance led to reduced OTT payouts. However, Peddi flips the script — if the film becomes a blockbuster, Netflix may have to shell out more. This performance-linked upside is rare and has sparked intense negotiations between both parties.

Netflix Not Fully On Board Yet

Insiders reveal that Netflix is not entirely comfortable with this revised structure, and discussions are still ongoing. The platform is reportedly cautious about setting a precedent that could impact future Telugu OTT acquisitions.

Big Scale, Big Stakes for Peddi

Starring Janhvi Kapoor opposite Ram Charan, Peddi is mounted on a grand scale by the makers of Pushpa. With AR Rahman composing the music and the first song Chikiri already creating waves, expectations are sky-high.

Release Date Clash Adds More Pressure

Adding to the uncertainty, Peddi is eyeing a March 27, 2027 release, which may clash with Dhurandhar 2. The box office competition, coupled with the new OTT clause, has placed the Netflix deal in a tricky spot for now.
