Legal Battle Over FIRs

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh has issued notices to the Assam and Maharashtra governments, seeking their responses. Chanchlani’s legal team argued that the Assam FIR was filed after a related one in Mumbai and should be merged for convenience.

Gauhati HC Grants Interim Bail

Earlier, the Gauhati High Court granted Chanchlani interim bail, directing him to appear before the investigating officer within 10 days. His legal team maintains that he did not make any objectionable statements and that the allegations primarily concern co-accused Ranveer Allahbadia.

SC Slams Ranveer Allahbadia ’s Remarks

The case is linked to podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, who is also facing legal trouble over controversial remarks on India’s Got Latent. The Supreme Court granted him interim protection from arrest but criticized his statements as “perverted” and “disgusting.” The court also emphasized the need for regulations to curb obscenity on social media.

Court’s Strong Stand on Online Content

The Supreme Court has urged the Union government to consider an anti-obscenity law for digital platforms. It also imposed strict conditions on Allahbadia, barring him from broadcasting new content and restricting his travel without prior approval.

Free Speech vs. Responsibility Debate

The controversy has sparked discussions on free speech limits in the digital age. The National Commission for Women has summoned Allahbadia and the show's producers. Meanwhile, comedian Samay Raina, another panelist, has deleted all episodes of India’s Got Latent and pledged cooperation with investigators.
