Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, known for her bold on-screen persona in the 90s, has now embraced a spiritual path. She is currently at the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, where she is taking significant steps in her transformation.

Initiation into Kinnar Akhara

Mamta Kulkarni recently took part in the sacred Mauni Amavasya Snan and performed her Pind Daan at the banks of the Ganga. She was officially consecrated as a Hindu nun under the Kinnar Akhara and is set to receive the prestigious title of Mahamandaleshwar.

The Kinnar Akhara, established by eunuchs, functions under the Juna Akhara and holds special significance in Hindu spiritual traditions. Mahamandaleshwar Kaushalya Nand Giri, also known as Tina Maa, confirmed the actress's initiation and participation in the rituals.

Her Journey Through Kumbh Mela

In a video shared on Instagram, Mamta detailed her plans to visit Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Ayodhya after completing her rituals in Prayagraj. The actress has been vocal about her emotional return to India after 25 years.

She also mentioned attending the Kumbh Mela in 2012 after 12 years of penance and now returning for the Maha Kumbh in 2025, marking another transformative milestone in her spiritual journey.

Leaving Bollywood Behind

Mamta Kulkarni's spiritual awakening began in 1996 when she was deeply influenced by Guru Gagan Giri Maharaj. Her newfound faith led her to leave Bollywood at the peak of her career.

In a past interview, Mamta revealed, "I got inclined towards spirituality in 1996. Bollywood gave me name and fame, but spirituality gave me peace. From 2000 to 2012, I practiced penance and celibacy, living a simple life in Dubai."

A Look Back at Her Film Career

Mamta Kulkarni gained fame with hit films like Aashiq Awara (1993), Krantiveer (1994), and Karan Arjun (1995). Her bold performances made her a popular figure in Bollywood and the South film industry. Despite her fame, she chose to walk away from stardom to pursue a spiritual life.
