Shibani Dandekar addresses 'Gold-Digger' comments on marrying Farhan Akhtar: "I am not going to..."
Shibani Dandekar, who tied the knot with actor-director Farhan Akhtar in 2022 after three years of dating, has faced her share of online trolling. In a recent interview on Rhea Chakraborty's podcast, Shibani opened up about the harsh comments she received, including being labeled a "gold-digger" for marrying Farhan. She revealed that the negativity also included accusations of "love jihad" because of their different religious backgrounds.

Reflecting on the trolling, Shibani said, "When I started my relationship with Farhan, people used to call me a gold-digger and accuse me of love jihad. But what am I supposed to do with that? I'm not going to cry myself to sleep over these comments. The reality is, Farhan comes from a Muslim background, and I come from a Hindu background, and we got married because we love each other. We're happy, and that’s all that matters."
Farhan Akhtar, who joined Shibani on the podcast, addressed the negative comments as well. He shared his perspective on dealing with criticism, explaining that the intention behind the criticism is important. “If the intention is to hurt, then why take it seriously? If someone offers constructive criticism, you can learn from it. But if the intent is to tear you down just for the sake of it, it’s not worth your time.”
Farhan was previously married to Adhuna Bhabani for 15 years before they separated in 2016. A few years later, he found love again with Shibani, and the two have since been enjoying their married life.
Despite the online hate, Shibani remains unfazed, focusing on her relationship with Farhan and brushing off the negative noise surrounding their marriage.
