Shooting for 'Fauji 2' begins in Pune with new star cast
The much-awaited sequel to the popular TV series Fauji, which originally starred Shah Rukh Khan in 1989, has officially started filming. The shooting is currently taking place in Pune and introduces a brand-new cast. While fans eagerly wait for the sequel, Doordarshan has begun re-airing the original Fauji series, bringing back nostalgia for the classic military drama.

Filming kicks off at Symbiosis University
Director Sandeep Singh, who is leading the project for Fauji 2, shared a motion poster from the series and announced that filming has begun at Symbiosis University in Pune. He wrote, "Lights, Camera, Action! The journey of recreating nostalgia has begun. Fauji 2 is shooting in Pune at Symbiosis College and will be coming soon on DD National. Stay tuned for more updates!” The series is co-produced by Vicky Jain and Zafar Mehdi, with Sameer Hallim as the Creative Head. The story is written by Vishal Chaturvedi, with a screenplay by Amarnath Jha and dialogues by Anil Choudhary and Chaitanya Tulsyan.
New cast and modern storyline
The sequel introduces a fresh spin on the army-based storyline, featuring a new cast that includes Gauahar Khan in the role of Lieutenant Colonel Simarjeet Kaur. Gauahar shared her excitement about being part of the sequel, stating, “It’s the first time I’ve agreed to a project without reading the script. The moment Sandeep approached me, I said yes because I'm a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan. It’s a surreal experience to be part of the Fauji universe.”
Original Fauji and Its Legacy
The original Fauji, directed by Raj Kumar Kapoor, was a beloved military drama that followed the training of a group of Indian Army recruits, including Shah Rukh Khan’s character, Lt. Abhimanyu Rai. The series showcased their challenges, playful moments, and the discipline enforced by their commanding officers.
As fans relive the original series on Doordarshan, the Director General of Doordarshan, Kanchan Prasad, expressed pride in the show's timeless appeal. He noted that Fauji remains a masterpiece that resonates with audiences even today. The re-airing of the classic series allows fans to reconnect with the story before Fauji 2 takes the legacy forward.
