Shreya Ghoshal Feels Uncomfortable When Young Girls Sing 'Chikni Chameli'
Popular singer Shreya Ghoshal shared her concerns about certain songs with bold lyrics. Speaking with Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh, Shreya said she feels uneasy when little girls sing songs like Chikni Chameli without understanding the lyrics.
"I have a few songs that could be considered borderline raunchy. There is a difference between being sensuous and objectified. It makes me conscious when I see 5-6-year-old girls singing such songs without realizing their meaning," she said.

Embarrassed When Kids Sing Sensual Songs
Shreya Ghoshal recalled moments when children performed Chikni Chameli in front of her, making her feel uncomfortable. "It’s a fun song, but when a 5-year-old sings it, it doesn’t feel right. It makes me embarrassed," she added.
Importance of Thoughtful Songwriting
The singer emphasized that while there’s nothing wrong with celebrating femininity and confidence, lyrics should be written more gracefully. "If a woman had written such songs, they might have had a different tone. Music and films deeply influence society, so setting a standard is necessary," she concluded.
Objectification in Bollywood Songs
For years, Bollywood item songs have faced criticism for objectifying women. Chikni Chameli, featuring Katrina Kaif, is one such example, portraying a bold woman expressing her sexuality. Shreya’s comments highlight the ongoing debate about the impact of lyrics on young minds and societal values.
