Squid Game 2 Actress Lee Joo Sil Passes Away at 80
Veteran South Korean actress and voice artist Lee Joo Sil passed away on February 2 at the age of 80 after battling stomach cancer. Reports confirm that she breathed her last at 10:20 AM KST while being with her daughter in Uijeongbu-si, Seoul.
Despite receiving emergency CPR at Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital, medical efforts could not revive her. Her agency, 1230 Culture, revealed that she had been undergoing treatment for stomach cancer for the past three months.
Lee Joo Sil’s Funeral Arrangements
Her mortal remains have been transferred to Severance Hospital in Sinchon, Seoul, where fans and well-wishers can pay their last respects from February 4. Her funeral is scheduled to take place on February 5 at the Severance Hospital hall.
A Brave Battle Against Cancer
Lee Joo Sil had previously battled stage three breast cancer at the age of 50. After more than a decade of treatment, she was declared cancer-free. However, the disease returned recently, leading to her demise.
Her Role in Squid Game 2
The actress passed away just over a month after appearing in Squid Game 2, where she portrayed Park Mal Soon, the mother of Hwang Jun Ho (Wi Ha Joon) and Hwang In Ho (Lee Byung Hun). Her performance as a caring mother left a lasting impact on audiences.
