The Housemaid Movie: Everything We Know About the 2025 Thriller Adaptation
The Housemaid was initially scheduled to release on December 25, 2025, but the studio has now shifted the date to December 19, 2025. The film will now compete directly with Avatar: Fire & Ash at the box office.

Cast and characters
Sydney Sweeney plays Millie, a woman desperate for a fresh start who takes a job as a live-in housemaid. Amanda Seyfried stars as Nina, the elegant but secretive homeowner. Brandon Sklenar (It Ends with Us, Drop) will portray Andrew Winchester, Nina’s husband. Michele Morrone has also joined the cast in a key role.
Storyline of The Housemaid
At first, Millie believes she’s found a second chance when she becomes a housemaid for Nina and Andrew Winchester. But soon she discovers that behind the pristine walls of their upscale home lie disturbing secrets. What begins as a new start spirals into a suspenseful nightmare full of betrayals and shocking twists.
Director and production team
The film is directed by Paul Feig, known for A Simple Favor (2018) and its sequel Another Simple Favor (2024). The screenplay is written by Rebecca Sonnenshine. Producers include Todd Lieberman (Hidden Pictures), Carly Kleinbart Elter, Paul Feig, Laura Fischer, Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Alex Young, and author Freida McFadden herself as executive producer.
Trailer and first look
Lionsgate dropped the trailer in mid-September 2025, offering a chilling glimpse into Nina’s seemingly perfect home. Set against a haunting rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please”, the trailer shows Nina giving Millie a key to “stay safe” in her room. But safety quickly turns into suspicion, with Morrone’s gardener appearing as a shadowy observer to the sinister events inside the house.
