Veteran Bollywood actor Deb Mukherjee, father of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, passed away at 83. He had been unwell and was hospitalized, where he breathed his last on March 14. His final rites will be performed today at 4 PM at Pawan Hans, Mumbai.

Deb Mukherjee made a mark in the Indian film industry with roles in movies like Abhinetri, Ek Baar Muskurado, Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool, King Uncle, and Kaminey. Though he remained away from the limelight in recent years, his contributions to Indian cinema remain significant.

Family Deeply Rooted in Bollywood

Born on November 22, 1941, in Kanpur, Deb Mukherjee belonged to the prestigious Mukherjee-Samarth family, known for its deep ties to the film industry. His father, Sashadhar Mukherjee, was a film producer and owner of Filmalaya Studios, while his mother, Satidevi Mukherjee, was the sister of legendary actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar.

Deb Mukherjee was also the brother of actor Joy Mukherjee and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, who was married to actress Tanuja, making him the uncle of Kajol and Tanishaa Mukerji. His daughter Sunita is married to director Ashutosh Gowariker, adding another strong connection to Bollywood.

Close Bond with Family

Deb Mukherjee remained close to his family and was actively seen during Durga Puja celebrations alongside his nieces Kajol and Rani Mukerji last year. His love for culture and traditions reflected his deep-rooted ties to the industry.
