Why Akshaye Khanna’s Dhurandhar Dance Is Being Compared to Vinod Khanna and Rekha’s 1989 Performance

Akshaye Khanna is grabbing plenty of attention lately, thanks to his standout role as Rehman Dakait in Dhurandhar. But what’s stealing the spotlight even more is his viral dance sequence in the song FA9LA, which has taken social media by storm.

Old Clip Resurfaces

As Akshaye’s dance goes viral, an old video featuring his father, legendary actor Vinod Khanna, has resurfaced online. The clip also includes Bollywood icon Rekha and former Pakistan cricket captain–turned–Prime Minister Imran Khan.

1989 Charity Event

The video is reportedly from a 1989 charity event held in Lahore. The warm on-stage moment shows Rekha and Vinod Khanna dancing together while Imran Khan grooves beside them. Fans quickly noticed something interesting—Vinod Khanna’s hand movements resemble Akshaye’s now-viral steps from Dhurandhar.

Fans Spot Similar Moves

Social media has been flooded with comparisons of the two videos. Many users are calling it a “like father, like son” moment, pointing out how Akshaye’s smooth and effortless steps seem to echo his father’s style from decades ago.

Choreography Revelation

In an interview with Filmygyan, Dhurandhar actor Danish Pandor revealed that Akshaye’s dance in FA9LA was not choreographed at all. He shared that the team was shooting in Leh Ladakh, with Vijay Ganguly handling the choreography. Right in the middle of the shoot, Akshaye asked director Aditya Dhar, “Can I dance?” Dhar simply replied, “Do whatever you like.”

Akshaye’s Improvised Magic

Danish added that once the take began, Akshaye looked around, watched everyone dance, and then began breaking into steps completely on his own. The entire team was stunned by his spontaneity, and the crew even applauded after the shot. According to Danish, “He did it all on his own. He is terrific.”
