The G20 Summit New Delhi Leaders' Declaration, which sought a middle-ground approach to the Ukraine conflict, was officially adopted on Saturday. This marked a significant development as consensus on the Ukraine issue had proven elusive during the past 10 months of G20 meetings.

Leaders and delegates from the world's largest economies began arriving at Rajghat to pay their respects at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial. This solemn visit followed the adoption of the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed the delegates at Rajghat, where they were treated to a live performance of Mahatma Gandhi's favorite devotional songs. Subsequently, they headed back to the G20 summit venue at Bharat Mandapam for a tree-planting ceremony. The third session of the summit, titled "One Future," was scheduled to follow the ceremony.

Before joining the summit, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited Delhi's Akshardham temple to offer prayers.

Notably, India, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the USA jointly unveiled an ambitious trade and infrastructure project on the same day. This groundbreaking initiative aims to connect India, the Middle East, and Europe, involving modern-day spice routes encompassing ports, electricity grids, data networks, and energy pipelines. The project, announced alongside the G20 leaders' summit, is seen as a response to China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The Belt and Road Initiative, a massive infrastructure undertaking, has raised concerns regarding China's extensive global influence across multiple continents.

In contrast, the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor is expected to boost economic development by enhancing connectivity and economic integration among Asia, the Gulf region, and Europe. This initiative holds the promise of stimulating economic growth while providing an alternative to the BRI, marking a significant step in the evolving dynamics of global infrastructure development.
