On its site, the G20 conference in September of last year saw multiple attempts at cyberattacks. The CEO of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), Rajesh Kumar, disclosed that the country's cybersecurity industry has effectively stopped many attempts at cyberattack, with the rate of DDoS attacks hitting a record 16 lakh per minute at one point.

The disclosures came up at an annual conference. The goal of the Home Minister's I4C wing is to give law enforcement agencies (LEAs) a framework and ecosystem to deal with cybercrime in a coordinated and comprehensive way.

16 Lakh Attacks were witnessed every minute

In response to a question, Kumar stated that during the summit, 16 lakh attacks were detected on the G20 account every minute. He also mentioned that the attacks began as soon as the website went live and reached their peak during the summit.

He disclosed that with the help of multiple Indian authorities, I4C was able to thwart these attempts and preserve the website's security.

Concerning some non-national foreign threat actors using the Virtual Private Network (VPN) and demonstrating their attempts from China, Cambodia, and Malaysia, the officer voiced worries. However, he added that it is exceedingly challenging to pinpoint the precise location because VPN networks mask the hacker's true identity.

Cyber experts claim that non-state actors use distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks to try and ruin any website. It is possible that these attacks came from outside the nation.

The G20 summit was the group's eighteenth gathering. It took place on September 9–10 of last year at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre in Delhi.

In his speech, Kumar also mentioned that since the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal's inception in August 2019, more than 31 lakh reports of cybercrime have been submitted.

He added that law enforcement agencies in states and union territories had filed more than 66,000 FIRs as a result of these complaints. Kumar stated that the involved agencies saved approximately Rs. 1,100 crore in scammed money in three years by helping 4.3 lakh victims with the assistance of National Cyber Helpline Number 1930.
