As part of the Gaganyaan mission, this flight test vehicle abort operation is carried out to show how well the crew escape mechanism works.

This mission marks a key turning point in India's mission to prove that it is feasible to launch people into space.

The Gaganyaan project aims to launch a crew of three people into a 400 km orbit for a three-day mission and return them safely to the earth by making a landing in Indian waters as an illustration of human spaceflight capability.

After the US, Russia, and China, India will become the fourth country to conduct a manned space mission thanks to this program. Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed that India should now set new and ambitious goals, such as establishing the "Bharatiya Antariksha Station" (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and sending the first Indian to the Moon by 2040, building on the success of the country's previous space initiatives, such as the recent Chandrayan-3 and Aditya L1 missions.

An LVM3 rocket will take the Gaganyaan mission crew to the designated orbit. This rocket is built in stages, which includes solid, liquid, and cryogenic propulsion systems.
