Since the Center initiated the commercial coal mine auction three years ago, 91 mines have been successfully auctioned, according to the Ministry of Coal on Friday, January 5. So far, the Coal Ministry has conducted seven rounds of auctions.

Six commercial mines have already begun coal production, and the government expects the other three to begin production within the next few months.

Coal mining from previously auctioned mines is expected to provide an annual revenue of 33,343 crores, based on output at an aggregated peak rate capacity (PRC) of 220.90 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

With all proceeds from auctions going to the coal-producing states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, and Assam, the government anticipates new investments in India through commercial coal mining.

Once fully operating, the mines are estimated to employ approximately 3 lakh people, both directly and indirectly.
