The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has revealed plans to extend an invitation to India for participation in the upcoming trilateral summit, which is set to include Israel, Greece, and Cyprus. The announcement was made during the 9th Trilateral Summit between the aforementioned nations, where the focus was on bolstering cooperation in natural gas exports.

Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis expressed a particular interest in partnering with countries like India in the field of natural gas exports. The invitation for India to attend the next trilateral summit, scheduled for the following year, was reported by The Times of Israel.

During a joint press conference held in Nicosia, Cyprus, President Nikos Christodoulides, along with Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis and Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu, reaffirmed their commitment to the 3+1 format with the United States. They emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation with other countries, including India.

The leaders at the summit stressed their dedication to strengthening the trilateral partnership platform, which is rooted in shared values and increasing common interests. Their collective efforts aim to promote peace, stability, security, and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean and the broader region.

The energy sector, with a focus on natural gas, electricity, and renewable energy, emerged as a solid foundation for regional cooperation, guided by international law and respect for each state's rights within their respective Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) and Continental Shelf. Given the evolving energy landscape and geopolitical developments, the leaders underscored the significance of creating a reliable energy corridor from the Eastern Mediterranean to Europe.

This commitment extends to promoting energy synergies with like-minded nations, including those within the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF). Projects such as electrical interconnections, exemplified by the EuroAsia Interconnector, and potential natural gas/hydrogen pipelines were highlighted as key areas of interest.

In response to the global challenge of climate change, the leaders agreed to reinforce efforts through collaborative projects, research and development, innovative energy technologies, and enhanced regional energy connectivity. They also reaffirmed their mutual commitment to assisting each other in responding to emergencies and improving coordination and joint capabilities.

Furthermore, the leaders emphasized the value of the 3+1 format with the United States, envisioning tangible deliverables in areas such as energy, economy, climate action, emergency preparedness, and counterterrorism. Plans were set in motion to work toward holding a ministerial 3+1 meeting later in the year.
