Harni Lake Tragedy: will innocents continue to lose lives in Gujarat for the carelessness of officials?
Taxila fire incident in Surat, the Kankaria incident in Ahmedabad, the Rangola incident in Bhagavanagar, the Morbi bridge collapse incident, and now the Harni incident. One thing remains common in all these incidents, the pain, the helplessness of people, and the fact that those responsible for these incidences get away without any accountability and punishment.
The people of Gujarat, particularly Vadodara are agitated as they are aware of the fact that those responsible for these accidents will never be arrested, and if arrested, they will never be properly punished.
Negligence of Officials
Vadodara's Harani Kand is a recent incident. Negligence on the part of corrupt officials, the system, contractors, innocent victims, and teachers has been observed. It is consistently seen that government officials escape consequences for such incidents. By allowing contractors to act without restraint, officials line their pockets while innocent people become victims. It is the government officials who flout the rules, allowing corrupt and negligent contractors to act with impunity.
These officials know that no matter what happens, no action will be taken against them. Government officials who bend the rules always find a loophole, preventing their detection when such incidents occur. Such officials are aware that regardless of the circumstances, they will not face consequences, and their trusted contractors will also be spared. Under the watchful eye of the system, these wrongdoers carry out actions that the common man has to endure.
Even the police dare not mention their names. The same situation has unfolded in Vadodara's Harani Kand. Paresh Shah, referred to as 'Chaurene Chaute' in Vadodara for the past two days, is not named in the police complaint, and it is unclear who is being detained. While Paresh Shah's son and two children have been accused, there is widespread discussion in Vadodara about why Paresh Shah himself has not been named, despite the police being hesitant to mention his name.
Even the police is engaged in theatrics under the guise of an investigation. Similar to the Morbi scandal, where the Chief Minister and the Minister of State for Home promptly visited the site and declared that no one would be spared, everyone knows what happened in the Morbi scandal. The police continue to stage investigations, and the Vadodara police have initiated an investigation drama by forming an SIT.
School officials not taking responsibility
School officials not taking responsibility
The school is also not taking proper responsibility for the accident saying that the teachers questioned the person in charge of the boat but they ignored the teacher's concerns. This answer from the school does not do justice to their responsibility to ensure the safety of people.
The public has now seen through this systemic drama, understanding that ultimately no significant step will will be taken. Innocent people will continue to be victims.
