Dasha Mata Vrat is being observed across several parts of India on Friday, March 13, 2026. The fast is dedicated to Dasha Mata, a deity believed in Hindu tradition to remove sorrow, hardship and misfortune from devotees’ lives.

The observance falls on the Dashami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra. On this day, married women observe the fast and perform rituals seeking prosperity, financial stability and happiness for their families.

When Will the Dasha Mata Vrat Be Observed?

According to the Hindu calendar, the Dashami Tithi began on March 13, 2026, at 6:28 AM and continues through the night. Based on the Udaya Tithi system, the fast is being observed on March 13.

On this day, the Abhijit Muhurat will last from 12:07 PM to 12:55 PM. The Vijaya Muhurat will be observed from 2:30 PM to 3:18 PM.

How to Perform Dasha Mata Puja?

Women observing the fast wake up before sunrise and complete their morning bath and prayers. They then take a Sankalp to observe the fast with full devotion and discipline.

Devotees prepare a sacred thread made of raw cotton. The thread contains ten strands and is dyed with turmeric. Ten knots are then tied in the thread.

Women perform circumambulation around a Peepal tree ten times while wrapping a raw cotton thread around the trunk. The sacred thread with ten knots is then worn around the neck as a symbol of Dasha Mata’s blessings.

Some devotees immerse the thread in a sacred river the day after the fast. Others continue wearing it for an entire year before immersion.

After completing the ritual, devotees narrate or listen to the traditional story associated with the fast. Worship performed under a Peepal tree is considered highly auspicious in Hindu belief.

Women also apply auspicious marks using turmeric and roli on the entrance of their homes while praying for prosperity and family wellbeing.

Religious Significance of Dasha Mata Vrat

According to Hindu belief, observing the fast with devotion helps remove obstacles and hardships in life. Devotees believe that the blessings of Dasha Mata improve a person’s circumstances and bring prosperity and stability.

The fast is also believed to strengthen financial conditions and ensure that families do not face monetary difficulties during the year. It is observed with the hope of bringing peace, harmony and happiness within the household.
