Delhi’s vehicle owners will get a much-needed chance to settle pending traffic challans quickly as the National Lok Adalat is set to be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Organised across all district courts in the capital, the initiative aims to offer instant relief from minor traffic fines without prolonged legal proceedings.

How Lok Adalat Will Function

Each case will be heard by a bench consisting of a judicial officer and a legal services authority representative. Eligible challans will be resolved in a single sitting, helping reduce court backlogs while offering motorists a faster and simpler alternative to regular hearings.

Eligibility Rules Explained

Only compoundable traffic challans pending on the Delhi Traffic Police portal and forwarded to the Virtual Court till September 30, 2025 will be considered. Common violations like no helmet or seatbelt, over-speeding, red-light jumping, wrong parking, missing PUC, traffic sign violations, number plate issues and wrongly issued challans are eligible. Driving without a licence may be allowed in select cases.

Cases Not Allowed

Major offences are strictly excluded from Lok Adalat hearings. These include drunk driving, hit-and-run cases, deaths due to negligent driving, minors driving vehicles, illegal racing and vehicles involved in criminal activities. Challans already pending in regular courts or issued outside Delhi will also not be accepted.

Online Registration Mandatory

Registration must be done online via the Delhi Traffic Police website starting 10:00 am on January 5, 2026. Authorities have capped registrations at 45,000 challans per day, with an overall limit of 1.80 lakh challans. Only challans visible on the Delhi Traffic Police or Parivahan portal can be registered.

Documents Required on Hearing Day

Applicants must bring a printed appointment letter, downloaded challan copy, and original vehicle documents — RC, driving licence, insurance papers and PUC certificate. Walk-in cases are usually not allowed, and payment (if imposed) must be made the same day at the court complex.

List of Delhi Courts

The Lok Adalat will be conducted at Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Saket, Rohini, Dwarka and Rouse Avenue court complexes. Applicants are advised to reach at least an hour early, as no printing facilities will be available at the venues.

Beyond Traffic Challans

Apart from traffic cases, the National Lok Adalat will also handle family disputes, property matters and other civil cases under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, ensuring same-day settlements without repeated adjournments.
