Do all relationships break after death? Premanand Maharaj reveals the truth
Premanand Maharaj: Life and death are both mysteries that no one has been able to fully understand. Every human being is connected to their loved ones, and an equally important question arises: does this relationship persist in some form after death? Does the soul remember its family, its identity, and its feelings? A female devotee approached the renowned Baba Premanand Maharaj of Mathura-Vrindavan with a similar question.
"Does the connection with family members completely break after death?"
Premanand Maharaj answered this question simply, saying, "Yes, all relationships break after death. Death is a state that causes more forgetfulness than deep sleep." Just as we don't remember anything during deep sleep, including who we are or what's happening around us, similarly, no memory remains after death.

Death is a Deep State
Premananda Maharaj further explains that, during deep sleep, we may sometimes experience dreams due to our conditioning, but in deep sleep, there is no memory. Death is considered an even deeper state, where all memories vanish. Similarly, we spend nine months in our mother's womb, but we don't remember even a second of that time.

Circumstances are the Basis of Relationships
Then, Maharaj Ji says that the cycle of relationships begins the moment a person enters this world. The bond with parents, followed by friendships, siblings, spouses, and children, develops as they grow older. All these relationships are based on our body and circumstances. As soon as the body ends, so too does the bond of these relationships. This is why, after death, a person is no longer connected to any relationship. The journey ahead is only for the soul.
