Expressing his enthusiasm for this project, Manish Malhotra stated, "It's an absolute honor to collaborate with Air India, our national flying ambassador. Reimagining their uniforms marks the beginning of a joyous and collaborative journey, and I am excited to embark on it." He further emphasized the shared vision with Air India, one that seeks to blend tradition with the future, creating uniforms that fuse comfort with authenticity, all wrapped in timeless elegance.
Manish Malhotra and his team have already commenced interactions with Air India's frontline personnel. They are conducting discussions and fitting sessions to gain a deeper understanding of the specific requirements of these employees.
According to an earlier report from Hindustan Times, the inclusion of sarees in the uniform options is being considered, albeit with a modern twist. Ready-to-wear sarees, designed to resemble traditional ones without the need for intricate draping, are among the choices being explored. For the past six decades, flight attendants have worn sarees, with the shift occurring in 1962 when the late JRD Tata decided to transition from skirts, jackets, and hats.
Insiders have indicated that the new uniforms will feature a color palette aligned with Air India, incorporating hues such as deep red, aubergine, and gold. This collaborative effort aims to blend the rich heritage of Air India with a contemporary and elegant touch, ensuring that the airline's employees represent a harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity.
