Not all frozen deserts are ice creams even if they have milk
In India when we say ice cream, we include Kulfi, Gelato, soft serve , custard and every other form of frozen desert we ever know. But do you know that not all of these are ice cream. For some, milk may not be the main ingredient. Here is the list of different types of frozen deserts.
1.Our own Kulfi- India is the home of Kulfi. Made from milk, sugar, and dry fruits, Kulfi is hard frozen and smooth as it melts. Its made by slowly cooking milk with sugar until it reduces and gets thick. Dry fruits and flours are added and poured into cone shaped molds with a stick in the middle. India who are in their 40s and 50s have seen the best days of kulfi when kulfi sellers were common. Kulfi now is generally enjoyed in North Indian weddings and in markets all over the country.
2.Soft-Made with just milk and sugar(with added flavors), softy is a light and semi frozen. Softy is airy because its is made by wiping. you can fid Soft serves in market places, fests and and often on roads and in front of malls.
3.Gelato- The technique and Texture of gelato is very different from the above 2. Gelato is native to Italy and lately been gaining popularity in India even though it is expensive. In contrast to American ice cream, which typically includes cream and eggs in its base, gelato is crafted using whole milk and excludes any eggs from its composition. Consequently, this meticulously churned delicacy adopts a denser, nearly elastic texture. Gelato boasts an extensive array of flavors, but some of the favored choices include classics like cream, cioccolato (chocolate), stracciatella (vanilla with chocolate flecks), and pistacchio (pistachio).
4. sorbet-Differing from sherbet, sorbet stands out as a fruit-centric frozen delight that entirely omits dairy. In fact, the traditional sorbet recipe comprises just two ingredients—fruit puree and sugar—which are churned and frozen similarly to ice cream. The exclusion of dairy attributes the grainy and flaky consistency of sorbet, making it not only a dessert but also a palate cleanser frequently enjoyed between courses.
5.Frozen Yogurt- this type is made from sweetened yoghurt mixed with fruit pulp and bites. Frozen yogurt is also gaining popularity in India after companies like AMUL have come up with their new range of Frozen Yogurt with different flavors.
Now you know many types of frozen deserts. Go ahead and flaunt your new knowledge any enjoy these frozen deserts or as we say "ice cream" because even though name is important, taste is what matters.
