In Madhya Pradesh's Satna district, a suspected viral infection outbreak has claimed the lives of at least two individuals who exhibited "diarrhoeal symptoms," with the deaths of two others currently under investigation for similar symptoms, according to health department officials.

Over the course of the last four days, all four deaths were recorded in Tikuria village, where a suspected outbreak occurred on September 6. A total of 55 people sought treatment in connection with the outbreak, reporting symptoms such as vomiting, loose motions, and fever.

Among the casualties, a 45-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy succumbed to "diarrhoeal symptoms." While the deaths of a 90-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman are under investigation, it's noted that they did not exhibit diarrhoeal symptoms. Health officials are actively looking into the potential causes of death for these individuals.

Dr. L K Tiwari, the Chief Medical and Health Officer in Satna, revealed that five handpumps in Tikuria village, which provide drinking water for its 800 residents, have been sealed due to suspicions of a viral infection outbreak. The Public Health Engineering Department has been tasked with collecting water samples from these sealed handpumps for testing to determine whether this is indeed a viral infection, with lab results pending.
