These Vegetables are actually fruits
Most of us know that Tomato is actually a fruit not a vegetable. Some of us must have even bragged about this knowledge. But do you know that there are several other vegetables which are actually fruits.
The difference occurs in the botanical Definition. According to this definition when a plant bears fruits, the motive is to produce seeds so that more such plants can be grown. These fruits grow from a flower. A vegetable is that part of the plant which does not have seeds, such as roots like potato. A vegetable can also bee leaves such as spinach and stems.
According to this definition following vegetable are fruits-
- Tomatoes: Although commonly considered vegetables in culinary contexts, tomatoes are botanically classified as berries, which are a type of fruit.
- Bell Peppers: Bell peppers are also fruits since they contain seeds and develop from the flowering part of the plant.
- Cucumbers: Cucumbers are another example of fruit-like vegetables because they have seeds and originate from the plant's flower. We eat cucumbers for salads, but that salad is technical a fruit salad not vegetable salad.
- Eggplants: Eggplants, or aubergines, are considered fruits because they contain seeds and develop from the plant's flower.
- Zucchinis: Zucchinis fall into the same category as cucumbers and are technically fruits for the same reasons.
- Pumpkins: Pumpkins, including various types of squash, are fruits due to their seed-bearing nature and flower origin.
Next time when someone tells you to buy fruits, do not buy eggplant, as you can ruin someone's plan of making fruit juice or maybe Jam.
