The Amarnath Yatra was
put on hold for a second day in a row on July 8 because of bad weather. It was
raining in most of Kashmir, and officials said this was the reason.

Due to bad weather, the
yatra is still not happening on either the Pahalgam or the Baltal roads for a
second day. They said that no traveller could move towards the holy cave shrine
this morning.

Officials said that new
groups of travellers could not leave Jammu to start their yatra because the
Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed.

On both paths, the
yatra was stopped on Friday because it rained in many parts of Kashmir.

Beginning early on
Friday, the torrential rains forced the suspension of the pilgrimage, and
pilgrims were stopped at the Baltal and Nunwan base camps.

Following significant
rainfall in the region, a landslip occurred along the Baltal route of the
pilgrimage route.

Nonetheless, there were no reports of fatalities. Officials stated that
the yatra will recommence once the weather improves. Over eighty thousand
pilgrims have visited the sacred cave shrine thus far.

The 62-day annual
pilgrimage to the 3,888-meter-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas
began on July 1 from the twin routes of Pahalgam, which is in the district
of Anantnag and Baltal in the district of Ganderbal. The end of the yatra is
scheduled for August 31.
