Hyderabad Constable's Demise Results from Rifle Misfire
A tragic incident unfolded in Hyderabad as Bhupati Srikanth, a 28-year-old head constable with the 12th battalion of Telangana State Special Police (TSSP), lost his life due to an accidental rifle misfire.
While on guard duty at Kabutar Khana police outpost near Hussaini Alam in the old city of Hyderabad, Srikanth was fatally injured by his service rifle that went off unexpectedly.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Syed Jahangeer, reported that the mishap occurred while Srikanth was inside the outpost between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. The sound of gunfire alarmed his colleagues, who found him injured and his carbine gun beside him.
Sadly, he succumbed to a bullet injury that entered his forehead and exited from his right ear while receiving treatment at Osmania General Hospital.
It's speculated that the misfire happened while Srikanth was inspecting the gun's bullets before resting. The authorities have initiated a case of suspicious death and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
Srikanth, part of the 2018 batch and originally from Appannapet village in Suryapet district, was known for his dedication to duty. He had recently been transferred from the APSP battalion to the Hussaini Alam police station outpost for guard duty.
The incident deeply affected his colleagues, who described Srikanth's commitment and speculated that the misfire occurred while he was checking the gun before securing it for the night.
