Breaking new ground in a historic moment, the Women Agniveer Vayu soldiers are set to take center stage as they lead the Indian Air Force contingent during the upcoming Republic Day parade, announced an official from the Indian Air Force on Monday.

In a proud declaration on the official IAF platform, the organization expressed, "Proud to wear the blues. Proud to march together. Proud to be a part of Republic Day 2024."

This significant inclusion comes on the heels of the Agnipath scheme, initiated in September 2022, which mandates a four-year commitment to the Armed Forces. Following this initial period, selected individuals are enlisted as regular cadre, committing to an additional minimum service period of 15 years.

Women Agniveer to participate in Republic Day Parade

Adding to the landmark moment, two all-women contingents from the Defence forces are also slated to grace the Republic Day parade this year.

"A contingent comprising 144 personnel will feature all-women soldiers, with 60 hailing from the Army and the remainder from the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy," stated defense officials.

Among them will be the Women Agniveer soldiers representing both the Navy and the Air Force. Another all-women contingent, led by women doctors, will be from the Directorate General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, showcasing the contribution of military nursing services.

The Republic Day celebrations, scheduled for January 26, will see French President Emmanuel Macron as the chief guest, marking the sixth instance of a French leader participating in the national capital's Republic Day celebrations.

Underlining a broader commitment to gender equality, the Narendra Modi-led government has prioritized the promotion of Nari Shakti, evident in the increased participation of women in the defense forces. The Indian Air Force has embraced women as fighter pilots, while the Navy has appointed a lady officer to command a warship for the first time. The Indian Army has also opened its doors to women officers and soldiers across various arms and services, with ongoing considerations for expanding opportunities in remaining branches.
