India has been standing its ground for raising the voice for a free and stable Indo-Pacific region. General Manoj Pande, India's Army Chief, reiterated the nation's unwavering dedication to upholding a free and stable Indo-Pacific region during the Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs Conference. The conference, co-hosted by India and the United States, is geared towards bolstering military diplomacy, fostering collaboration, and advancing peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.

General Pande's remarks come at a time when concerns about Chinese influence in the region have escalated globally. The event, attended by army chiefs and delegations from 30 nations, spans a two-day period and concluded on Wednesday.

While addressing the audience, General Pande highlighted the shared pursuit of a free Indo-Pacific, but he also alluded to "manifestations of interstate contestations and competition" within the region, making indirect reference to China's increased activities. Notably, neither General Pande nor his American counterpart, General Randy George, explicitly mentioned China during their addresses.

During a press briefing, General George emphasized the paramount importance of the Indo-Pacific region for the United States, underlining their commitment to the area's security. He noted that the conference serves as a testament to the unity and dedication of participating nations.

General Pande, speaking at the opening ceremony, emphasized India's approach focused on peaceful conflict resolution, adherence to international law, and avoidance of the use of force. He also drew attention to the security and humanitarian challenges faced in the region, including territorial disputes and the development of "artificially expanded islands to acquire real estate and establish military bases" – an indirect reference to China's actions.

China's territorial claims in the East China and South China seas have generated concerns among neighboring nations and Japan. Additionally, the relationship between India and China has faced strains since 2020, following a border clash in the Himalayan Ladakh region that resulted in casualties on both sides.
