India is now included in the list of safe states by the United Kingdom
India will now be added to the list of safe states by the United Kingdom, effectively restricting the country's illegal immigrants' ability to seek asylum. The UK Home Office made the announcement on Wednesday.
The goal of the decision is to improve border control measures and expedite immigration procedures. The Home Office reports that the government has reevaluated its policy regarding asylum seekers from India and Georgia in light of the increase in small boat arrivals to the UK over the past year.
We must prevent individuals from taking dangerous and unauthorized trips to the United Kingdom from essentially safe nations, said UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman.
By adding more names to this list, we will be able to remove illegal immigrants from this country more quickly and make it very evident that you cannot stay here. She continued, "We're still committed to implementing the provisions in our Illegal Migration Act, which will aid in the fight against illegal migration."
India is considered as country with no human rights violations
The UK government decided not to consider India for asylum because the nation is listed as one of the safe states, indicating that there are no widespread human rights violations and that the country is generally safe and stable.
Therefore, there will be fewer opportunities for Indians who leave the country illegally to apply for asylum in Britain.
It will make it possible to detain people who enter the UK illegally and return them as soon as possible to either their home country or a safe third country.
Other countries in the list
The UK Home Office has chosen to include Georgia on its list of safe states, in addition to India. Other countries that the UK regards as safe are Albania, Switzerland, and the European Union (EU) and its member states.
Before becoming law, the proposal will now be subjected to the customary parliamentary review process, which includes debates in both Houses of Parliament.

The most recent actions are part of the Illegal Migration Act 2023, a legislative change intended to "stop the boats" by allowing individuals entering the UK illegally to be detained before being quickly relocated to their home country or a safe third country.
