India Launches Chandrayaan-3 Today: Quick Updates

At 2:35 p.m. local time
at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, India will send its hopes and ambitions into
space aboard the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft. If India is successful, it will be
only the fourth country to ever set foot on the moon.

• The Bahubali rocket will carry the moon
  lander Vikram. GSLV, now LM-3, is 43.5 meters tall, half as tall as Delhi’s
  Qutb Minar. The spaceship will land on the moon on August 23 after 40 days.

• The primary shortcoming of the previous
  Chandrayaan-2 mission was the initiation of non-normal system conditions.
  Everything was far from ordinary. ISRO Chief S Somnath stated in an exclusive
  interview with NDTV that the spacecraft was unable to manage the non-normal
  landing conditions.

• After a failed moon mission in July
  2019, the Indian Space Research Organisation is hoping for the best.

• Vikram is expected to arrive without
  incident. After being dropped off by the lander, the rover Pragyan will spend
  one lunar day (equivalent to 14 earth days) exploring the lunar surface and
  collecting data for scientists.

• India’s moon mission will create history
  by landing in the moon’s south, where scientists have found water molecules.
  India’s first moon landing in 2008 surprised everyone.

• Scientists want to look at the soil on
  the moon, drive around its surface, and keep track of moon quakes.

• ISRO says that it took what it learned
  from the last moon trip and changed the software and cut the number of engines
  on the lander from five to four. Everything has been tested thoroughly.

• Mr. Somanath said that the new mission
  is set up so that it can land properly even if some parts don’t work. Several
  possible problems were looked at, such as sensor failure, engine failure,
  programme failure, and calculation failure, and ways to fix them were found.
