India-Middle East-Europe connectivity corridor launched by PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with US President Joe Biden and Saudi Arabia's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, unveiled a far-reaching economic integration project plan during the G20 Summit in New Delhi. Named the "India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor," this collaborative initiative, jointly led by India and the US, involves key partners such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the EU, France, Italy, Germany, and the USA. It focuses on enhancing connectivity and infrastructure.

Modi stressed the significance of connectivity in advancing human civilization, emphasizing India's commitment to this endeavor while upholding international rules, respecting sovereignty, and safeguarding regional integrity.

Biden lauded the initiative as a substantial development, aligning with the G20 Summit's theme of "One Earth, One Family, One Future." He introduced the concept of "economic corridors" to address infrastructure gaps in low and middle-income nations, pledging US collaboration in this effort.

French President Emmanuel Macron praised the initiative's potential to connect Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, underlining the importance of tangible outcomes, including a global green trade road with net-zero transport infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Muhammed Bin Salman expressed anticipation for the project's integration and conveyed gratitude to all involved parties.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hailed the initiative's role in strengthening global interconnections, emphasizing the commitment to building better infrastructure for low and middle-income nations.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor as a direct link between India, the Arabian Gulf, and Europe, also announcing the Trans African Corridor.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz underscored the need for active efforts to realize such projects and committed additional funds to the World Bank.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed Japan's dedication to various transport infrastructure projects and a broader scope of cooperation, including supply chains and industrial value chains in the Bay of Bengal region.

The unveiling of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor project signifies a significant stride in global connectivity and infrastructure development, showcasing the active involvement of multiple nations and leaders at the G20 Summit.
