India army has shared photos on Twitter about the ongoing military exercise with Egypt called Bright Star-23. This exercise is a multi-national tri-service exercise lead by USA.

Exercise Bright Star was initially a bilateral exercise between USA and Egypt in 1997 with its first edition taking place in 1980. In 1995, this exercise started including other nations as well. Before this year, this exercise took place in 2021 where 21 nations joined. This time the exercise started on 31st August and will conclude on 14th September 2023.

This year a record 34 countries have participated in the exercise making it the biggest exercise to take place in the West Asia and North African region. Qatar, USA, Saudi Arabia and Greece are some of the countries participating in the Bright Star 23 Exercise.

According to the Government of India, this exercise will be participated by 23 JAT Battalion who will represent Indian Army. A total of  549 personnel will take part in the exercise from Indian Armed Forces. This is the first time Indian Army is participating in the exercise.

India and Egypt also conducted a bilateral exercise in January 2023 between the special forces called Ex- Cyclone 1.

The motive of participating in this exercise is to share best practices, knowledge and technique between the 2 nations. These exercises also increase cooperation between participating countries.

One of the focus of this will be to conduct training exercises on how to combat new unconventional threats. The exercise will comprise of dealing with field and situational training along with combined arms live firing exercises. A panel discussion on cyber security lead by Indian Armed Forces will also take place.
