Benefit to Ujjwala Programme beneficaries

LPG cylinders will cost Rs. 200 less for Ujjwala programme participants, with an additional Rs.200 in existing subsidies. Customers who are not Ujjwala programme participants would only get a price reduction of Rs 200. The price reduction will take effect on August 30.

75 lakh extra gas connections provided without charge

To speed up Pradhan  Mantri  Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) application processing, the government announced it will provide 75 lakh gas connections free. The number of PMUY beneficiaries would rise to 10.35 crore with these additional connections.

Rakshabandhan gift for millions of women

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described it as a gift to millions of women on Raksha Bandhan .He promised that the government would always work to raise people's standards of living.  This initiative help the underprivileged and middle class.

Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri remarked, "We comprehend the difficulties that families confront in managing their budgets. The decrease in cooking gas costs supports the government's larger objective of maintaining affordable access to necessities.

LPG Prices in Different states

Domestic LPG cylinders are currently priced at Rs. 1,053 in Delhi, Rs. 1,052.50 in Mumbai, Rs. 1,068.50 in Chennai, and Rs. 1,079 in Kolkata. The cost of a home LPG cylinder was hiked by Rs 50 by the oil marketing corporations in July. Prior to this, the prices were raised twice in May.

The action is being taken in front of the later this year scheduled Assembly elections in five states: Mizoram, Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Next year also marks the end of the current five-year tenure of the Narendra Modi government.

This initiative will ease inflation

The Indian government is preparing new initiatives. The price drop for LPG could reduce family spending. India's inflation rate reached a 15-month high of 7.44 percent in July 2023, in part due to a spike in food prices.

According to a recent National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) report, LPG was the main source of energy for 89 percent of urban families and 49.4 percent of rural households in India. Over 90% of families use clean energy for cooking in states like Delhi, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, and Sikkim.
