In a recent development on Saturday, India has strongly denounced an alarming incident involving its High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Vikram Doraiswami, during his visit to Scotland's Glasgow. The High Commission of India has labeled the occurrence as "disgraceful."

On September 29, 2023, an unsettling event transpired as three individuals, all hailing from regions beyond Scotland, reportedly obstructed a scheduled meeting organized by the Gurudwara Committee. This gathering was intended to facilitate discussions on community and consular matters involving the High Commissioner, Consul General of India, and senior community leaders, along with committee members and a Scottish parliament member.

The disruptors threatened and subjected the organizers and attendees to verbal abuse. In response to the escalating situation, the High Commissioner and Consul General made the difficult decision to depart the premises shortly after their arrival, in order to avoid a potential confrontation.

According to the High Commission, one of the non-local extremist individuals even attempted to forcibly open the car door of the High Commissioner. Fortunately, prompt intervention by one of the organizers prevented the situation from deteriorating further.

Expressing their profound concern, the High Commission of India has formally reported this disgraceful incident to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police. Multiple community organizations, including the event organizers, have issued formal apologies for the incident and urged authorities to take swift action against those responsible.

This unsettling event unfolded toward the end of the High Commissioner's two-day visit to Scotland, which involved a series of meetings and discussions with local political leaders, representatives of the Indian diaspora, prominent business figures, and university groups.

As per reports, the Police Scotland spokesperson responded to the incident by stating, "“We were called around 1.05 pm on Friday, 29 September, to a report of a disturbance that happened in the Albert Drive area of Glasgow. There were no reports of any injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
