India's Medal Standing at Paris 2024-  Neeraj Chopra secured India’s first silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a second-place finish in the javelin throw final on Thursday. Chopra’s best throw was 89.45 meters, falling short of Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won gold with a remarkable 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record.

Chopra’s Performance Compared to Tokyo 2020

Chopra, who won gold in Tokyo three years ago while Nadeem finished fifth, faced a tougher challenge this time. Nadeem’s record-breaking performance clinched him the gold, while Chopra’s silver medal was India’s fifth of the Games.

Hockey Team Adds to India's Medal Count

Earlier the same day, the Indian hockey team earned a bronze medal by defeating Spain 2-1 in the medal match. This win marks India’s second consecutive hockey medal at the Olympics, a first in 52 years for back-to-back hockey medals.

India’s Position in the Medal Standings

With the addition of these two medals, India has moved up to 64th place in the overall medal tally. Out of 85 countries that have won medals at the Games, India’s total of five medals—one silver and four bronze—positions them in 64th place.

Here’s a table showing the medal tally at the Paris Olympics 2024:

Shooting Team Leads India’s Success

India’s standout achievements at the Paris Games have come from the shooting team. Three of India’s five medals have been won by shooters. Manu Bhaker has been a key contributor, winning two bronze medals: one in the 10m air pistol individual event and another in the mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh.
