The Capital of Ireland, Dublin suffered violent riots on November 23, Thursday after five people were injured in a knife attack that occurred the same day. Three of the five people were children. People protesting the attack turned the protest into violent riots.

Knife Attack in Dublin School

The Knife attack took place outside a primary school named Gaelscoil Cholaiste Mhuire at 13:40 local time. The injured people included 3 children and a teacher. A five-year-old girl is fighting for life in a critical condition. Another six-year-old girl sustained head injuries in the stabbing along with a five-year-old boy suffering minor injuries. A teacher aged 30 was severely injured in the attack.

An injured 40-year-old man is suspected to be the attacker.

The motive behind the attack is unclear. The suspect is said to be an Irish citizen.

Rioters damaging property

Rioters assembled at the Dublin city center took the law into their own hands and started damaging property nearby.

A double-decker bus was burned in front of the statue of Daniel O'Connell. Windows of a nearby hotel and McDonald's were smashed. A shop was looted as well. Trams were damaged in the city center. The police cars were also burnt by the riots. In total, the rioters burnt down 11 police vehicles and damaged 13 shops while looting them.

 A large number of Security personnel deployed

The protests turned into violence creating havoc in the city. The police deployed 400 police officers to control the situation. Several Irish police officers were injured at the scene as well. Authorities called for calm and said that the violence that erupted at the city center would not be tolerated by the state.

The Irish justice minister, Helen McEntee said “The horrific attack today in Dublin city centre was an appalling crime that has shocked us all. However, the scenes we are witnessing this evening in our city center cannot and will not be tolerated. A thuggish and manipulative element must not be allowed to use an appalling tragedy to wreak havoc.”

The police arrested 34 people in connection with the riots for public order offenses. Protestors were seen chanting anti-immigrant slogans such as "Get them out".
