The South Pole, in his opinion, has a "specific benefit with respect to being less illuminated by the sun."

The South Pole is now almost 70 degrees closer to us. The South Pole has a distinct advantage because it gets less sunshine. According to the ISRO director, there is a possibility that it would include more scientific data.

Because humans ultimately want to go and establish colonies and travel beyond, he continued, scientists working on the moon have expressed a great deal of interest in the South Pole.

India's Moon mission Chandrayaan-3, which had been travelling for 41 days, made a significant advancement for its space programme when it landed on the lunar south pole at 6:04 PM on Wednesday. With this, India became the first nation to set foot on the Moon's south pole and the fourth nation overall, following the US, China, and Russia, to do so.

Now that it has started investigating the lunar surface, the solar-powered rover Pragyan will send data back to Earth in one lunar day, which is equal to 14 days on Earth.

India is on the Moon, ISRO chief S. Somnath declared as the Chandrayaan 3 lander module Vikram touched down on the lunar surface safely and softly.

From Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was watching the Chandrayaan 3's successful landing, PM Modi called ISRO Chairman S Somanath to congratulate him.

"Somnath Ji, because of your name's association with the moon and the moon's astrological sign, the moon, your family members will also be very happy today. From my side, many many congratulations to you and your entire team," PM Modi stated during the phone call . Please pass along my greetings to everyone ,he continued. I would like to personally greet you very soon, if feasible.
