ISRO Successfully Launches Aditya L1 Solar Mission from Sriharikota
In a historic moment, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has marked its presence yet again with the successful launch of the PSLV-C57.1 rocket carrying India's inaugural solar mission, the Aditya-L1 orbiter. This mission, aptly named after the Hindi word for the sun, aims to delve into the enigmatic world of solar winds, phenomena that can lead to disturbances on Earth, most notably observed as the mesmerizing auroras.
The launch was carried out from the renowned Satish Dhawan Space Centre, situated in the coastal town of Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The precise timing of the launch, at 11.50 am on a Saturday, was no coincidence. It symbolized a significant stride in India's space exploration endeavors, emphasizing the nation's commitment to unraveling the mysteries of the cosmos.
Aditya L1 shall be the first space based Indian mission to study the Sun. The spacecraft shall be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, which is about 1.5 million km from the Earth.#AdityaL1 #ISRO @PMOIndia @rashtrapatibhvn https://t.co/DjhnZz58S3

The primary objective of the Aditya-L1 spacecraft is to undertake an extraordinary journey, spanning approximately 1.5 million kilometers, which will extend over a duration of four months. During this voyage, the spacecraft will reach a distinctive position in space known as Lagrange Point. These points are named after Joseph-Louis Lagrange, a pioneering Italian-French mathematician, and represent regions where gravitational forces balance, enabling objects to maintain a relatively stationary position. This strategic placement significantly reduces the fuel consumption required to maintain the spacecraft's trajectory and operation.
In the latest developments, the payload fairing has separated, providing the Aditya L1 spacecraft with its first taste of the vastness of space. The launch progression has been smooth and on track, with the third stage of the rocket performing nominally. The vehicle is currently in a coasting phase, which will last for approximately 200 seconds before the next phase of the mission unfolds.
