On Monday, Gujarat
Assembly Speaker CR Paatil and CM Bhupendra Patel witnessed External Affairs
Minister S Jaishankar submit his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha.

He expressed his
gratitude for the chance to serve as a representative for Gujarat in the Rajya
Sabha in a tweet written in Gujarati. He said that he owes a debt of gratitude
to the people of Gujarat for allowing him to serve his country.

Ten Rajya Sabha seats
(representing the states of Goa, Gujarat, and West Bengal) will be decided on
July 24. Nominations must be submitted by July 13 and withdrawals must be
received by July 17. Voting will take place on July 24 if necessary.

The BJP is expected to
win three unopposed Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat. Due to an insufficient number
of eligible representatives, Congress has opted not to nominate anyone.

The BJP won 156 out of
182 seats in the Gujarat legislative elections in 2022. The Congress only took
home 17 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party won only 5.

The BJP now controls
eight of Gujarat’s eleven Rajya Sabha seats. Congress currently has the
remaining seats. Jaishankar, Jugalji Thakor, and Dinesh Anavadiya, all members
of the BJP, will have their terms in the Rajya Sabha end on August 18. Two more
candidates have not been announced by the BJP.
