Kazakhstan Coal Mine deadly fire killed 32 while 14 others missing
In a tragic incident in the central Asian country of Kazakhstan, 32 people have lost their lives while another 14 are still missing. The Coal Mine fire which occurred at the Kostenko Mine caused Havok on October 28, Saturday.
The company said that from a total of 252 people who were at the Kostenko mine, 208 have been evacuated and 18 people were seeking medical help. 14 people were still missing according to the latest reports.
The emergency situation ministry said "At the Kostyenko mine as of 4 pm (1000 GMT) the bodies of 32 people have been found."
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and ordered the cabinet to stop investment cooperation with ArcelorMittal Termirtau, the local unit of the Luxembourg based Steelmaker.
According to media reports, the government is finalising the deal to nationalise the company which operates the country's largest steel mill.
The First Deputy Prime Minister of the country, Roman Sklyar told the reporters on last month that the government was engaged in talks with the potential investors to could take over the mill.
The Prime Minister said that the government was unhappy with how the company, ArcelorMittal was failing to meet the investment obligations, upgrade equipment and ensure the safety of the employees even after a series of deadly incidents occurred.
