KHEL MAHAKUMBH 2.0 Registration Drive Commences with CM Bhupendra Patel's Inauguration
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with Sports and Culture Department Minister Harsh Sanghvi, kicked off the registration curtain-raiser event for Khel Mahakumbh 2.0. This significant event unfolded at Ahmedabad's Shaktigreen Convention Center, marking the commencement of registrations for Khel Mahakumbh. Originally conceived with the noble theme of 'Khele Te Khille' and inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Khel Mahakumbh has grown into a substantial sporting initiative.
During the event, CM Bhupendra Patel formally launched the registration link and a toll-free number dedicated to Khel Mahakumbh 2.0. He emphasized the government's steadfast commitment to supporting athletes and ensuring they receive the necessary assistance.
Acknowledging the transformative impact of Khel Mahakumbh, CM Bhupendra Patel underscored that Gujarat's sporting reputation has surged significantly. He also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of a stadium in Varanasi, designed to host 30,000 spectators for sports events.
Sports and Culture Department Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced that a total of Rs. 45 crore in prizes would be awarded to bolster the prospects of athletes and elevate Gujarat's name on the national and international sporting stage. He highlighted the remarkable journey of Khel Mahakumbh, noting that in its inaugural year, it drew registrations from 16 lakh enthusiastic youth, and last year, an impressive 55 lakh participants joined.
Khel Mahakumbh 2.0 brings several changes, including the incorporation of four new sports: woodball, Sepak Takrao, beach volleyball, and beach handball, expanding the total number of sporting disciplines to 39. The competition now includes an under-9 age group category, and participants are allowed to engage in two sporting events simultaneously. Prizes will be directly credited to the bank accounts of winners through RTGS, ensuring complete transparency in the process. Moreover, there will be no differentiation between normal and disabled players, promoting inclusivity.
The state government aims to provide a platform for state-level game winners to compete at the national and international levels. Athletes who participated in the Asian Games will each receive a cash award of Rs. 5 lakhs.
The event witnessed the presence of City Mayor Pratibha Jain, District Collector Praveena D.K., Secretary of Sports Authority of Gujarat R. D. Bhatt, Joint Secretary of Youth and Culture Department K. S. Vasava, Vice Chancellor of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University Dr. Arjun Singh Rana, and numerous other dignitaries.
Khel Mahakumbh continues to evolve as a platform for identifying and nurturing young talent at the grassroots level, ensuring that every sportsperson in the state receives a fair opportunity to shine.
