Kolkata case: Accused in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Case Admits Crime in Lie Detector Test
Kolkata case: Hours before allegedly raping and murdering a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjay Roy reportedly spent time drinking with a friend. During questioning by the CBI, Roy admitted to the crime in a lie detector test. The CBI's psychoanalytical profile of Roy described him as a pervert addicted to pornography, with what officials referred to as an "animal instinct."
Details of the Night
On the evening of August 8, Sanjay Roy visited RG Kar hospital to check on his friend's brother. Later that night, he went drinking with his friend, initially visiting the Sonagachi red-light area before moving to the Chetla red-light area in South Kolkata. Reports indicate that Roy and his friend molested a girl in Chetla. While his friend engaged in sex in Chetla, Roy waited outside, talking to his girlfriend on a video call and asking her to send nude photos.
Events Leading to the Crime
After leaving Chetla, Roy returned to the RG Kar hospital and went to the trauma center on the fourth floor. CCTV footage shows him moving through the corridor of the seminar hall at 4:03 am. It was here that Roy allegedly committed the crime against the trainee doctor. Following the incident, he went to the house of his friend, Kolkata police personnel Anupam Dutta.
Victim and Investigation
The victim, who had gone to rest in the seminar hall, was raped and murdered on August 9. The autopsy revealed 25 injuries on her body. Initially, Roy admitted to the crime, but he later reversed his confession and claimed innocence in court. He also told the CBI that the victim was already dead when he entered the seminar hall, a claim authorities believe is an attempt to mislead the investigation.
