A landslide happened on the Arako-Chinva motorway in Modi village, stranding several travelers on the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Parts of the road have crumbled due to the landslide in the area, according to officials.

Meanwhile, the district government said that dozens of communities had been isolated as a result of severe rainfall throughout the state, which caused major landslides in several areas.

Gangotri National Highway Landslide

Earlier in the day, a section of the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi caved in owing to a landslide near the Forest Department office at Lisa Depot, affecting vehicle traffic.

According to officials, a length of roughly 60 meters has caved in, and the area is adjacent to a strategically important airstrip. The Gangotri National Highway was stopped to traffic on Thursday, 500 meters before Bhatwadi, due to debris falling.

The search for Gaurikund has resumed

Meanwhile, the hunt for those who went missing after a landslide caused by a flash flood near Gaurikund this week started on Saturday morning.

According to Nandan Singh Rajwar, district disaster management officer, approximately 100 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officers, as well as a team from the local administration, are involved in the search effort.

Drones are also being deployed, he noted. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is expected to visit the site to assess the search and rescue efforts.

On Thursday and Friday night, three businesses were washed away in a landslide during a flash flood in a rainfed waterfall at Daat Puliya near Gaurikund on the road to Kedarnath, leaving 20 people missing. The Mandakini River flows around 50 meters beneath the businesses.
