The first Indian Lighthouse Festival is being conducted in Goa from September 23 to 25 as part of the initiative's lighthouse heritage tourism plan.

At the renowned Fort Aguada Lighthouse in Panjim, Goa, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal opened the Indian lighthouse festival. According to a PTI report, this momentous occasion symbolises a revolutionary initiative to uplift historic lighthouses around the country and turn them into tourism attractions.

The three-day festival will include all lighthouses in the nation in its celebration in an effort to revive its historical and cultural relevance.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Tourism Shripad Naik, and Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte are among the dignitaries who are anticipated to attend the opening session.

The 'Lighthouse Heritage Tourism' programme, which Sonowal had previously started, had the ambitious goal of turning 75 old lighthouses into profitable tourist attractions. These ancient lighthouses are currently undergoing restorations that will provide them with cutting-edge equipment and amenities to improve the tourist experience.

Minister Sonowal stressed in his remarks on this occasion that while lighthouses have historically helped ships navigate safely, they would now act as peaceful retreats where visitors may fully savor the spectacular beauty of nature.

According to the statement, the effort aims to highlight the rich cultural history, significance of these majestic structures, and possibilities for using them as tourism catalysts to boost the local economy.
