Democratic Progressive Azad Party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad remarked on Sunday that the results of the four state assembly elections will impact next year's Lok Sabha polls, as the counting trends began to unfold.

"We are just there-and-a-half months away from the Lok Sabha elections. The results of these (assembly) polls will definitely have a bearing on the parliamentary elections," stated Azad during interactions with reporters earlier in the day.

As per the latest counting trends, the BJP is poised for victory in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, while the Congress is leading in Telangana.

Azad highlighted a notable observation made over the past 25 days, expressing concern about the Congress's apparent abandonment of the minorities. He pointed out that both the BJP and the Congress limited their debates to the backward classes, emphasizing the lack of inquiry into the representation of minorities among chief ministers.

"Not one leader from the Congress asked even once how many chief ministers are there from the minorities," Azad added.

Having recently left the Congress to establish the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Azad noted that while the BJP is expected to overlook discussions about minorities, the grand old party, over the years, has also shifted its focus away from minorities in favor of the SCs and the STs.

"It is a matter of concern and needs pondering over. While Indira Gandhi would talk about the Muslims and the SCs being poor, it later became minorities and SCs. The new leadership over the past eight-nine years has ignored the minorities and limited itself to only the SCs and the STs," he further commented.
