Mamata decides to not give Congress even a single seat in Bengal
Politics in West Bengal is heating up as Mamata Banerjee decides to not share even a single seat with Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Let's know the whole matter:
The rift between TMC and Congress
The rift between Congress and the Mamata-led Trinamool party has come to light over the previous weeks as Mamata Banerjee made it clear that her party is not planning to fight the Lok Sabha elections with Congress.
The TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee earlier said that she doesn't need Congress to fight BJP in the state. Her party is self-sufficient to win Bengal. She said "I had no discussions with the Congress party. I have always said that in Bengal, we will fight alone. I am not concerned about what will be done in the country but we are a secular party and in Bengal, we will alone defeat the BJP."
No seat for Congress
Talks for seat sharing had been going on between the sides for a long time, but no common ground was agreed by the two. CM Banerjee said that her party proposed to give 2 seats to Congress but the latter's disagreement with the proposal led to them deciding to not give a single seat to Congress. She said "We had given a proposal to the Congress party of two seats in Malda, but, they didn't agree on that. Now, they won't get even a single seat in the state."
She also blamed the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for the spoiled relations between TMC and Congress. She said "CPM is the number one broker of BJP, I have suffered a lot of beatings from CPM and I will never forgive that. I had good contacts with Congress. Because of CPM, my relationship with the Congress party got spoiled."
Congress has different plans
Jairam Ramesh, a senior leader from Congress has said that the INDIA alliance still has plans to fight elections in Bengal together. He said "Till now things have not been finalised on our end. In an alliance, all members should speak in one voice. One-sided decisions cannot be taken... There are three parties in the INDIA alliance. If all these three want to fight separately, they should officially announce this. Till now we are considering that the INDIA alliance will fight together in West Bengal as well."
