Milkipur By-Election 2025: The vote counting for the Milkipur Assembly by-election is currently taking place under strict security measures. Officials are tallying the votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) across 14 tables at the designated counting center. EVM and Postal Ballot Counting Process

As per election procedures, the counting of postal ballots started first. After 30 minutes, officials began tallying electronic votes. Once both processes were underway, postal and EVM votes were counted simultaneously. To ensure transparency, election officials are verifying Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips from five randomly selected polling stations. This cross-checking system, introduced in 2019, helps confirm the accuracy of EVM results.

Voter Turnout and Key Candidates

The Milkipur by-election, held on February 5, 2025, recorded an impressive voter turnout of over 65%. The constituency has 371,000 registered voters. Located in the politically crucial Ayodhya district, Milkipur has become a battleground between the ruling BJP and the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP). Although ten candidates are in the race, the main fight is between:

Reason for the By-Election

This by-election was held after SP leader Awadhesh Prasad vacated the seat following his Lok Sabha election victory from Faizabad.
