Yesterday, January 11, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Telecom, IT, and Rail, expressed confidence in India's ability to meet the demand for over a million talented workers from the global semiconductor industry.

He was giving a speech in Gandhinagar at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. He gave the Global Semicon business assurances about the government's emphasis on skill development. He outlined India's collaborations with 104 universities to guarantee the sector has access to B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. caliber people.

The Minister suggested establishing an excellence center in Gujarat and emphasized the need of innovation. Vaishnaw suggested that IIT Gandhinagar have such an R&D facility while speaking to the industry.

He also urged Micron to participate in this project as a knowledge partner. Alongside the Minister, Gursharan Singh, Senior Vice President of Micron Technology also spoke at the event. Regarding the matter of skilling, he stated that the curriculum in India at the moment does not prioritize the production of semiconductors. He gave his word that talent was in high demand and that India could take advantage of this to develop its skills.

To that aim, Micron Technology and the Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel-backed NAMTECH inked a Memorandum of Understanding for skilling and training.

An educational program called NAMTECH aims to prepare students for the newest and most cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technology.
