Nepal Earthquake: At least 128 people were killed and over 100 injured

A powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal at midnight on Friday left over 100 people injured and at least 128 dead.

The tremor was felt as far away as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar in addition to the Delhi-NCR area. The epicentre of the 11.47 p.m. earthquake was located at Lamidanda in Jajrakot, 142 km from Kathmandu and 941 km from New Delhi.

Due to its location at the meeting point of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, Nepal is prone to earthquakes. A 7.8-magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks claimed about 9,000 lives in 2015.

It was the third earthquake to strike Nepal at midnight on Friday. Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.2 and 4.6 struck Nepal on October 2. A 6.1 magnitude earthquake with an epicentre of ad Dhading, 55 kilometers from Kathmandu, struck Nepal on October 22.

As rescue efforts continue, the number of fatalities in Nepal may rise. On Saturday morning, a medical team and Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal, also known as "Prachanda," made their way to the spot.Delhi entered the severe category with the increasing pollution levels and schools will remain closed.

According to officials, members of the Army and Police have been called up to assist with rescue operations. Also, communications were disrupted in numerous locations.

Images and videos of debris emerging from Nepal show the terrible effects of the powerful earthquake, which trapped hundreds of people inside collapsing homes. While reports of deaths are still coming in from other districts, Jajarkot and West Rukum districts experienced the highest number of casualties.
