In a disheartening incident, a New York teenager has been arrested for allegedly utilizing 3D printers to produce "ghost guns," as reported by the New York Post. The NYPD disclosed on Wednesday that they had confiscated 3D-printed firearms and firearm components during a raid at an East Harlem daycare center operated by the teenager's mother.

Karon Jamal Coley, along with two other minors, was apprehended on Tuesday following the raid on East 117th Street near Madison Avenue, as announced by the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism, Rebecca Weiner, during a press conference.

During the operation, law enforcement discovered two fully assembled 3D-printed firearms, one partially completed assault pistol, a 3D printer, 3D printing tools, and plastic filament within the residence where Coley's mother operated a licensed childcare facility. Additionally, a single 3D-printed lower receiver, a critical component of assault weapons, was also found during the raid.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his dismay over the incident, labeling it "a heartbreaking scenario." He voiced his concern, emphasizing that individuals had been exploiting the situation and endangering children by producing firearms within what should have been a safe environment.

Adams remarked, "These folks are preying on our children. We have an 18-year-old in his room with a 3D printer. He’s not making little robotic toys, he’s making guns. That should be scary to everyone. That is extremely frightening."

The investigation into this case began when authorities initiated a probe into reports that "a group of individuals, including some minors, were purchasing ghost gun parts from online retailers," along with the materials necessary for 3D-printing firearm components, as explained by Weiner.

Karon Jamal Coley has been charged with multiple offenses, including criminal possession of a loaded firearm, manufacturing a machine gun, manufacturing a rapid-fire modification device, and manufacturing a dangerous instrument, among others.

Notably, there has been a significant increase in the recovery of "ghost guns" in New York City in recent years. These privately manufactured weapons lack serial numbers, making them difficult to trace.
